Why We Serve

We serve because Jesus calls us to use what He has given us to care for others and build up His Church. Every act of service - big or small - helps us follow Jesus by making disciples who know Him, live like Him, and make Him known!

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about serving at Southland? We've got answers!

What are the qualifications to serve?

Every ministry requires a background check, reading and agreeing to the Volunteer Handbook and Child Protection Policy, and a conversation with the ministry lead.

Security Team, Family Ministry (Kids and Students), and Group Leaders must have attended Southland for at least 6 months.

Family Ministry and Group Leaders must agree with Southland's Core Beliefs and support its Core Distinctives.

How often am I expected to serve?

Each role and serve team may be a little different, but we typically ask volunteers to serve 1-2x per month. You can even coordinate serving schedules with your family members to meet your family's needs!

How do I get started with serving?

Start by completing a Serve Team Interest Form. A staff member will review your information and confirm that you meet the requirements for your team of interest. From there, you’ll receive our Volunteer Handbook and Child Protection Policy to review and sign.

Next, you’ll connect with your Serve Team Lead to talk through the role that’s the best fit for you, how often you’d like to serve, and anything else you’d like to know about the team. We’ll then complete a background check as part of the process.

Once everything is approved, your Serve Team Lead will help you get connected with a schedule and any training you need to get started. Then you’re ready to jump in and serve!

Can I serve on more than one serve team?

Some ministries work well together, such as the Welcome Team and Prayer Team. If you’re interested in serving on more than one team, we’ll start by getting you connected with one team first. Once you’ve had a chance to get comfortable and find your rhythm, we'll help you get set up with another team.
